How they are made
Crafted in Portugal
Apart from the great surf, Portugal got a long history of making superior hand-crafted leather goods.
A couple of years ago I was working with a Scottish streetwear brand. On a trip to Portugal to check up the production I stumbled upon a small studio making the best leather bags I ever seen.
So, when Madelene started to speak about the lack of good scissor cases and the idea to start BON-BAG was born I knew exactly where we should go to make it happen.
Vegetably tanned leather
Leather is a natural material that got its own character. Apart from being extraordinary durable, it also wears in and gets more beautiful the more you use it.
Today humanity is consuming about 1,6 globes / year. Much due to mass consumption of products and clothing and of low quality
The key for a sustainable product (and your wallet) is that it can be used for years to come. Leather does that. But there is a catch... Most leather are tanned and processed with chrome and other toxic chemicals that leaks out and harms both you and the environment.
The BON-BAGS are made in vegetable tanned leather where only natural, harmless substances are used in the process.
This tanning process have been used for a couple of thousand years. It takes longer but the leather gets more durable, age beautifully and makes both you and the planet happier.
We buy the leather from a small tannery outside Pisa in Italy, run by two childhood friends. They buy their hides from selected farms in France and Ireland with animals that have grazed outside.
